Summary:  Muirfield CC is an obvious achievement of Nicklaus' design of great golf courses. Pristine grooming and a wonderful layout makes for a beautiful round of golf in an elite setting. Water and bunkers are prevalent and good golf is well rewarded. Similar to other Nicklaus designs, the course plays extremely fairly and has few hidden obstacles. Greens roll as well as any we've seen and can be set at high metered speeds (12-13). Maturity of the course adds a lot of flavor with large tree-lined fairways and short-grass that heals quickly and provides excellent lies on almost every shot. At 6875, it isn't excessively long, but long hitters will find many bunkers placed to tighten landing areas. Large greens are often angled and have one or two major ridges across. General slopes of the greens are a major factor to low scores, as approach shots must take these into consideration. In all, the Muirfield CC is a an obvious treat and a legendary location to play a solid professional track.
